"My name is Catarina Ramos and I am a PhD student in the Department of Sports Science at Nottingham Trent University. My research is looking at the effects of exercise on the gut microbiome of older adults and how this may contribute to healthy aging. The gut microbiome is the trillions of microorganisms that live in our guts and can significantly affect health and disease. For this work, we need to recruit people aged between 65 and 85 years old.
We are writing to ask for your help with the recruitment of participants for this important new research. If this is something that you would be able to help us with, I would be more than happy to visit you or speak on the phone to talk more about the research that we are doing and why is it important.
We are aiming to start our research study at the end of September, and we are looking to recruit 100 ‘healthy’, free-living participants aged between 65 to 85 years old from the Nottingham area. The study has 2 parts: After reading the study information and providing consent (if they wish to participate), the first part will be completion of two online (or hard copy) questionnaires. The second part will be a battery of tests that will be done at Nottingham Trent University Clifton Campus. In either one or two visits (to suit the participant). The consent and questionnaires should take about 30 minutes and the laboratory tests should take about 2 hours. Participants will receive a £5 voucher and detailed explanation of their results.
I have attached the Participant information sheet which includes all the information about the study to this email along with a poster"
