Did an epic audax ride today with Sue. From Lichfield to Colsterworth and back - 128 miles in 11 hours with 3 café stops - 9h 18m actual riding time. We had a tailwind going out and averaged about 14.5 mph, but had a 60 mile block headwind coming back so the average speed dropped down a bit to 13.9 mph overall. 6000 feet of climbing. Some nice quiet roads for the most part, but we had to climb over Charnwood twice and there were a few lumpy roads around Melton on the way out. Legs held up well and I didn't feel too bad at the end. I think that's probably my longest ride ever.
Only 8 riders today with heavy frost and ice about. We all set off together and kept away from the small roads to stay safe. At least the sun was out! This made it a shorter ride than usual to Farnsfield where the café was very busy. This made the stop a little longer but we weren't keen to leave the warmth anyway. At least we managed to get a ride in and stay safe.
