Just had my first ride this year and my first ever TT. I did one lap of the 20 mile course so 10 mile in 37.34 obviously got a ways to go as all the others did the full 20mile in under the hour, the winner 50.16.
Oh well you have to start somewhere! Will try and better that time next Sunday.
My ride out was a bit daunting as I knew it was somewhere on Oxton bypass; but where exactly? The A6097 is a pretty long road when you're cycling from Lowdham end and the time is ticking down to 9am which is the start time, so over the roundabout and up the hill thinking to myself if I don't see them when I get to the brow I will turn back. But then I see a group of people in the lay-by ahead, then that must be the start and arrived there just in time! Book in and get my number. I wait my turn and then being held upright by Roger the 30 sec countdown begins and I am off whizzing through the gears as my speed builds up probably due to the adrenaline rush, then gradually slowing down as my legs tell me they don't want to do this! But I overcome their protest and continue on, but then my heart and lungs join my legs and gang up on me but I still push on up and down the hills. Then after an eternity I am passing the time keepers on the opposite side of the road "come push it we are nearly there" I say to no one but myself and my legs start to go quicker (I have to at least look like I am trying) round the roundabout and back up to the start trying to sprint as fast as I can up the hill to the finish which in reality was not much of a sprint but more a slog, uh that b***y pothole I have just ridden over. Then I am passing the finish. Its over, the first one done. Great when is the next one! Roll on next Sunday!
