About 20 riders at Lowdham this morning so we had 2 groups with 6 in an easy group. With a NE wind all headed to Newark. In the Orston area it was dull and misty and then the sun came out again. I went wrong off Bowbridge Road into an industrial estate - confused by all the new road construction in the area! Then we took a different route through a housing estate to avoid the busy roads up by Newark Hospital to Sconce Park.
Good to have a tail wind home as I started to fade around Red Lodge. My longest ride for some time at 46 miles.
We headed through Long Bennington and Westborough to Dry Doddington and Claypole, then turned for Newark via Balderton, splitting between Gannets and Feeling Peckish. A nice ride back with a slight tailwind, via Hawton, Cotham and Shelton, back to Car Colston. I ended up with 46 miles at a healthy 16.4 average.
Yes as we approached a dead on the industrial estate I did a slow left turn but my right foot caught the mudguard and jammed my peddling and steering up and I did a slow motion graceful (or not) dismount, well I fell over sideways into the dirt. Nothing hurt or damaged apart from being embarrassed and could not get the front mudguard adjusted so that it slightly rubbed for the rest of the ride. Mudguards I hate them specially when the bikes not designed to have them!
Apart from this a nice ride though at 50 miles when I got home, a shock to the body specially after my lay off and fitness down to zero.
Did not quite make my hill back to my house and legs gave out and had to walk the last 100 yards back home.
