Sunday 23rd May 2021

in What have you done today?

11 out and we went to a new cafe near Melton Mowbray - Hill Top Farm Cafe. Out via Whatton and Granby Lane, then up Stathern hill and over to Scalford. We took a minor road (Holwell Lane) which brings you out on the A606. You then cross over and take a small lane which is closed off to cars, which takes you right to the cafe. Back via Holwell Lane to Holwell, which brings you out at the cross roads at the top of the Melton Road climb from Long Clawson. A bit of a stop to fix a puncture here, then a fast descent into Clawson and back via Hickling, Kinoulton and the Cropwells.

I wondered if that old road from the A606 near Potter Hill to the cafe was usable. Seems it is a useful road to use to avoid traffic.

There’s about 3 yards where you may have to dismount and the rest is quite overgrown, but it’s rideable all the way from the A606 to the Cafe and beyond. It saves having to ride on the A606. I found the little lane after Sue came back that way from the Alpine, on a VBCC Friday Ladies ride.
