With sunshine and light SE wind, we took the opportunity to go to Claypole hoping it wasn't too busy - it wasn't as it was closed! So we headed to Rumbles at Sconce Park and sat out in the sun. Coming back through Thorpe the road was closed and a man was jet washing the road clean following a water leak. He stopped to let us through but Michael B clipped the hose with his wheel and fell. Suspected broken hip and he couldn't move without great pain.
Ambulance called local householders were very helpful bringing out drinks, a pillow and an umbrella (to shade him as it was hot. Michael's wife arrived by car and his bike was loaded. More calls for an ambulance but still no response. After about an hour and a quarter we could do no more so we left Michael with his wife awaiting an ambulance.
I'll post any further news when I hear. I hope Michael recovers well.
James contacted Michael's wife and he has broken his leg near his hip. He is due to have a plate inserted tomorrow and then, hopefully, discharged. Not as bad as a broken hip.
Keep vigilant and safe everyone!
Michael's operation has been delayed until tomorrow. He will then have a couple of days in hospital.
What terrible bad luck. By coincidence, we went out through Thorpe the other way, on our way to Bottesford and saw the road closure, wondering if we could get through on bikes, which we could.
I hope Michael‘s break isn’t too bad and he’s able to resume cycling in the near future.
Oh dear. Never nice to hear of an accident. Hope he convalesces speedily.
Michael is back at home now. I think it will mean some weeks without cycling.
