Only 8 out, must have been the weather forecast of strong winds? 1 group of varying abilities went north into the wind firstly via the Trent valley, then Southwell, Hockerton & then to Caunton, left & left back onto the Eakering/Bilsthorpe road. The road to Bilsthorpe was always going to be slow into the wind and the group split periodically before regrouping (this included a front derailleur issue). John stayed with Michael with the others slightly ahead. The turn away from the northerly wind at the Bilsthorpe turn was welcome. Hexgrave cafe was closed but Farnsfield cafe was as good as ever. Tail wind home, Greaves lane preferred (but perhaps not the steep section) as opposed fighting the cross winds on the back road towards the A614. The wind blew everyone from there all the way back and i couldn't resist setting the fastest time of the year from Epperstone to Gonalston on the back road. (that won't last for long once the Parrots have been down it!)
8 out today. We headed out along the Trent valley to Kelham and Bathley, where Mike Hankin and friend left us. The rest of us (Me, Sue, Llew, Colin, Steve Perkins and Kev Humphreys), headed for Hockerton via Caunton with a tea stop at Newfield Dairy. Back through Southwell, Fiskerton and Hoveringham. A nice day out on quiet roads, but it was cold and there was a rising SW wind on the way back. 45 miles for me at just under 15mph.
