Sunday 29 April

Two groups today on a very cold day for April. but it didn't rain!

Most went in the faster group aiming for Collingham but ending up at Sconce Park. The group was too large for the Garden Centre.

We ended up with just 3 in the easy group (Frank went home - too cold) to Little Jack's. We made it short as we all needed to be back early - and it wasn't a very inspiring day!

An enjoyable ride despite the cold wind. We put the big guns on the front into the wind to drag us along at a reasonable speed. We went via Long Bennington and Stubton then swung back towards Newark and Sconce Park to avoid the roadworks. A nice tailwind home via Shelton and Car Colston. I ended up with a 16mph average and 49 miles. Everyone kept up ok, including some of the newer riders stepping up from Ed's group.

I'm away next week but we are hoping to have a regular Sunday slightly faster ride to go to some different cafes such as the Alpine at Asfordby.

There is certainly a case for having a faster group on a Sunday. I'm conscious that we do miss out on visiting cafes slightly further afield like Wymondham that we use to visit. Unfortunately, I just can't manage the extra distance now so it is good that Trev has offered to lead some runs. Any other volunteers are also welcome for the days that Trev can't make.

With regret, the Sherwood Open 25 which had been tabled for 15th August 2020 is now going to be cancelled tomorrow. I have notified Bill Stanley of my decision. Unless someone steps up, which I know is highly unlikely, then my decision will stand. I initially put my name down to run it on 5th September 2020 and that date would have personally been fine for me. As it is, in my absence, a decision was made, at the CTT Date Setting Meeting on Sunday, to move it back to one of the alternative dates I offered. This would have required someone else to take on the running of the event on the day. I would have happily helped out anyone in Sherwood that could have taken it on with the admin side of it where I could. It’s a great shame as the event this year was an enormous success. In fact, I’ve been told that our Open 10 was one of ONLY 3 events in the Central district that had a full field. Our Open 25 was only 4 short of being a full field from memory to another great success for Sherwood. If you anyone does wish to take this one on then you need to let me know today really so I can put your name forward to Bill.

Riders thin on the ground today as it was a bit drizzly at first - 8 in total I think. Just 2 of us in the super easy group. We headed to Hoveringham and were soon passed by the fast group. However, the road was closed for a "police incident" and the fast group was not allowed through. I found later that a woman died after her car went in the river yesterday afternoon. We had to turn back to Lowdham where I noticed I hadn't started my Garmin so missed 8 miles! After the delay Phil and I decided to go to Southwell Garden Centre via Averham and Upton. After consuming vast sticky flapjacks we returned through Morton and found the road re-opened at Hoveringham. It was now sunny and the roads were starting to dry out. 40 miles for me.

Would anyone like to step forward and become the Sherwood Open 10 mile (and 25 mile potentially) Event Organiser? You can decide whether to run one or two events. Deadline was 3 weeks ago technically but we've got an extension until later today. I would prefer it if it was a non time trialling member of the group to allow the club's competitors to ride the events though it wouldn't stop you riding anyway. I have template letters for the Police Notification, Start Sheet, Results and Prize List in Word format so I can provide those together with mapping. I'll even edit them for next year so all you have to do is send out any manual entries and start sheets, organise the Pavilion side of things arrange marshals, set up Event HQ, road signage and take it down afterwards. I also have a spreadsheet into which you would enter the finishing times and it would automatically calculates the riders' finishing positions. Then simply send out the Results Sheets to the people who have done a postal entry and upload the results in excel format to the CTT website. Apologies for the late notification. Thanks in advance.
