Around a dozen out on today's ride. I decided on Rufford with the wind supposedly a North Westerley. Out along the river, then Southwell, Hockerton, Caunton and back towards Eakring. On this stretch we saw a unicyclist riding in the opposite direction. Out to Wellow then Rufford, where we discovered there was a 1940's themed weekend. £10 entry for cars but we got in free. The café was very busy and we sat outside, being serenaded by the White Cliffs of Dover and other 40's hits. Back through Bilsthorpe, Hexgreave and up Greaves Lane then back to Lowdham. I ended up with 54 miles at 15.1 average.

5 days agoA cold day, but not as cold as yesterday. Still a little ice around so kept off the lanes at first. Some went to Newark while ten of us had an easy ride to Farnsfield including Jon Kettell up from Somerset on a visit. A very social gathering at the Woodberry Café for a longer stop than usual. Clockwise from left Mark Haywood, Richard Buckwell, Kevin Humphreys, Ed Ward, Jon Kettell, Phil Hooks, Dave Gretton, Michael Falter, James Pam and Dave Waring.
Good ride, 45 miles back to Lowdham with same average 15.1 mph. The Rufford 40's weekend looked good fun with plenty of displays, singers, music etc. It was amazing to see the large number of people dressed in forties fashion along with those in 40's style forces uniforms. The car park was packed - but didn't see an forties style bikes!
