4 of us rode this 110km event on Saturday starting at Waddington, just south of Lincoln. Sue Revill, Paul Mellors, Sue Adams and me. Sue and Paul set off promptly at 9am, we were delayed as Sue had a puncture before we even started, caused by a small thorn. On the road by 9.10am, we caught a few backmarkers on the journey south through Brant Broughton, then turned west to Stubton and Dry Doddington and Bottesford. Up Long Lane to the furthest south point at Redmile crossroads, then Barkestone, Plungar and Langar to the café stop at Bingham. We decided to nip home to put some more air in Sue's tyre and grab a spare tube. Sue and Paul went to the Rose and May café. Back on the road, through Shelton and onto the old railway line at Cotham, to emerge at the bottom of Beacon Hill in Newark. Coddington and then back through Stapleford Woods and Haddington, with a final 1 in 6 climb at Harmston to get back to Waddington. We had a decent tailwind all the way back from Newark and we were doing 23mph on the stretch through Stapleford Woods. We got round in just over 5 hours, Sue and Paul were around 20 minutes quicker. A good event with the southern half on familiar roads.

Great ride even though some roads very familiar from club runs. Paul and I benefitted from a bit of a tow from The Whonger Wheelers going out against the wind. Pan-flat on the Lincolnshire side apart from the ridge climb back to the HQ - cheeky little 15%'er, at least it was short. Great organisation, plenty of food and drinks at start and at finish, large car park at Waddington Village Hall. And all for £5 entry fee - well done to local Audax Organiser Paul Bolton, he had a simple philosophy - 'Audax rides - organised by cyclists for cyclists, we don't want to make a profit just get people cycling'.
We got a tow from the Wongers Wheelers, back from Newark. I googled them and found out they are based in Horncastle and named after the local football team whose nickname is The Wongers.
